Kawasaki India has announced a new rider development initiative called the Kawasaki Road to the Himalayas Programme. The announcement was made through the company’s official social media channels and is aimed at riders interested in structured off-road training and competitive rally participation.
The programme will begin in April 2026 and continue through August 2026, forming the first phase of Kawasaki’s long-term plan to strengthen its off-road riding ecosystem in India.

Training Phase Runs April to August 2026

According to Kawasaki, the initial phase will focus on professional training sessions conducted by experienced riders and trainers. These sessions are designed to prepare participants for high-altitude riding conditions and competitive off-road events.
Customers interested in taking part can register through their nearest Kawasaki dealership. At present, Kawasaki has not disclosed eligibility criteria, rider skill requirements, or the number of available slots. More operational details are expected closer to the start of the programme.
Selection Round Planned for September
Once the training phase concludes, Kawasaki will hold a final selection round in September 2026. Riders who successfully clear this stage will earn an opportunity to participate in the Rally of the Himalayas, scheduled for October 2026.
The Rally of the Himalayas is one of India’s most demanding motorsport events, known for its extreme terrain and high-altitude challenges. Kawasaki’s initiative offers Indian riders a rare manufacturer-backed pathway from training to rally participation.
KLX230 Likely to Be Central to the Programme

While Kawasaki has not officially confirmed the motorcycles to be used, the KLX230 is expected to play a central role. The dual-sport motorcycle was launched in India in 2024 and marked Kawasaki’s first serious entry into the accessible off-road segment.
Following localisation and tax revisions under GST 2.0, the KLX230 is now priced at Rs 1.84 lakh (ex-showroom), down significantly from its earlier Rs 3.30 lakh tag. It is powered by a 233cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 18.7 bhp and 19 Nm, making it suitable for both trail riding and rally training.
Kawasaki has also recently introduced an extended warranty scheme for the KLX230, indicating a sustained focus on building confidence among off-road buyers.
Kawasaki Road to the Himalayas Programme- What This Means
The Kawasaki Road to the Himalayas Programme signals Kawasaki’s intent to invest beyond product launches and into rider development. For Indian customers, it offers structured training, manufacturer support, and a potential entry point into one of the country’s toughest rally events.
More information on training locations, fees, and rider eligibility is expected to be shared in the coming months. For now, Kawasaki has confirmed timelines and dealership-led registrations, with further updates promised closer to the programme’s start.
