Chery iCar V23-Based EV Spotted Testing in India, Launch Details

Chery iCar V23-Based EV: A new electric SUV based on the Chery iCar V23 has been spotted testing on Indian roads, indicating that the Chinese carmaker, in partnership with JSW Motors, could be preparing another product for the domestic market. JSW Motors is the passenger vehicle arm of the JSW Group and has an existing tie-up with Chery for India-focused launches.

The test mule was heavily camouflaged, but its proportions and design cues suggest strong similarities with the China-spec iCar V23.

This development comes amid reports that the launch timeline of the Jetour T2 plug-in hybrid SUV, which was earlier expected in the second half of 2026, has been pushed back. If introduced, the Chery iCar V23-Based EV could become one of the first all-electric offerings under the Chery-JSW collaboration.

Positioning and Expected Pricing

If launched in India, the electric SUV is expected to be positioned above mass-market EVs such as the MG Windsor EV. Industry estimates suggest a possible price range higher than ₹14 lakh to ₹18.50 lakh (ex-showroom), depending on localisation levels, battery options and drivetrain configurations offered for the Indian market.

For buyers, this would mean an electric SUV with more rugged styling and off-road-inspired proportions, placed a step above compact urban EVs.

The Chery iCar V23 features a boxy silhouette and an upright stance, underlined by a ground clearance of around 205–210mm. The China-spec model measures 4,220mm in length, 1,915mm in width and 1,845mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,735mm. Approach and departure angles stand at a claimed 43 degrees and 41 degrees respectively, highlighting its off-road-focused design intent.

At the front, the SUV gets circular headlamps connected by a sealed panel, while the bumper design appears inspired by rugged SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler.

The side profile is distinctive, with the absence of a rear quarter glass and the use of pull-type door handles instead of flush units. Depending on the variant, 19-inch or 21-inch wheels are offered. At the rear, instead of a spare wheel, there is a boxy external storage unit mounted on the side-hinged tailgate.

The claimed CLTC range is up to 401km for the RWD variant and up to 510km for the AWD version. DC fast charging support ranges between 85kW and 104kW.

What This Means for India

If brought to India, the Chery iCar V23-based EV would expand the choice of mid-size electric SUVs with a more lifestyle-oriented, rugged character.
