All-New Ducati DesertX Unveiled With 890cc Engine, New Chassis

Ducati has unveiled the second-generation All-New Ducati DesertX, confirming that the adventure motorcycle is not a mid-cycle update but a completely new model. The latest version brings changes to the engine, chassis and suspension, while retaining the rally-inspired design that defined the outgoing bike.

The All-New Ducati DesertX is expected to arrive in India in the coming months, although an official launch timeline has not yet been announced.

All-New Ducati DesertX New 890cc V-Twin Engine

Powering the new DesertX is Ducati’s latest 890cc liquid-cooled V-twin engine. The unit produces approximately 110 bhp and 92 Nm of peak torque. Ducati says the engine has been tuned with a strong focus on mid-range performance, with a significant portion of torque available lower in the rev band.

This should make the motorcycle easier to manage in demanding off-road conditions where controlled throttle response is essential. The company has also worked on reducing engine weight and increasing valve-clearance service intervals, which could improve long-distance practicality for touring riders.

New Frame and Updated Suspension

The second-generation All-New Ducati DesertX is built around a new aluminium monocoque frame that uses the engine as a stressed member. Ducati claims this design enhances structural rigidity while helping keep overall weight in check.

Suspension components include a fully adjustable long-travel upside-down fork at the front and a rear monoshock with a new link-type mechanism. The bike continues with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tubeless wheel setup, maintaining its off-road focus.

Braking is handled by twin discs at the front and a single disc at the rear.

Electronics and Equipment

The All-New Ducati DesertX features a revised TFT display with updated graphics and interface. Ducati has equipped the motorcycle with a comprehensive electronics package that includes multiple riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control and cruise control.

These systems are designed to adapt the motorcycle’s behaviour to different terrains and riding styles, whether tackling loose surfaces or covering long highway distances.

Ergonomics have also been updated. Ducati says the riding position has been refined for improved comfort and better control while standing. The air filter has been repositioned behind the front fairing, allowing easier access for cleaning and maintenance, which can be particularly useful during extended off-road use.

Visually, the new DesertX retains its distinctive rally-inspired silhouette, including the tall stance and twin-headlamp layout. However, subtle styling refinements give the bike a sharper and more contemporary look compared to its predecessor.

What It Means for India

With a new engine and chassis, the second-generation All-New Ducati DesertX represents a significant upgrade over the outgoing model.

For Indian adventure motorcycle buyers, especially those looking at mid-capacity off-road-focused machines, the new DesertX could offer improved performance and practicality once it reaches showrooms.

Further details regarding pricing and India-specific specifications are expected closer to launch.
