JSW Motors First SUV Teased for India: Diwali 2026 Launch Expected

JSW Motors has released the first teaser of its upcoming JSW Motors First SUV for the Indian market, marking the brand’s formal entry into the passenger vehicle space. The model is expected to launch around Diwali 2026 and will be assembled at the company’s manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra.

At the same time, the company has begun appointing dealers in major cities, signalling preparations for a nationwide retail and service network ahead of the launch.

While JSW has not officially confirmed technical details, the SUV is widely understood to be based on the Jetour T2 sold overseas.

Globally, the model sits on Chery’s Kunlun monocoque platform and measures close to 4.8 metres in length, including a rear-mounted spare wheel. It is over 2 metres wide and nearly 1.9 metres tall, with a 2,800 mm wheelbase.

These dimensions place it firmly in the premium midsize SUV segment. The SUV is also designed with off-road capability in mind, offering 220 mm of ground clearance and approach and departure angles of up to 39 degrees and 30 degrees respectively.

Powertrain Strategy For India

Internationally, the Jetour T2 is offered with a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine producing over 250 hp and nearly 390 Nm of torque, paired with either a dual-clutch or conventional automatic gearbox. An intelligent all-wheel-drive system supplied by BorgWarner is also available in global markets.

For India, however, the focus is expected to shift towards electrification. The JSW Motors First SUV is likely to feature a 1.5-litre plug-in hybrid powertrain. Overseas, this setup delivers an EV-only range of up to 139 km under the NEDC cycle.

If introduced with this configuration, the model would enter a relatively niche but growing plug-in hybrid space in India. For buyers, this could mean the ability to drive short daily commutes purely on electric power while retaining the flexibility of a petrol engine for longer journeys.

Inside, the JSW Motors First SUV is expected to offer a technology-heavy cabin. A 15.6-inch infotainment screen dominates the dashboard, paired with a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The system is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 processor and supports wireless smartphone connectivity.

Higher variants could feature leatherette or suede upholstery, a panoramic sunroof, multi-colour ambient lighting and a 12-speaker Sony audio system. The rear seats are designed to fold flat, expanding boot capacity from around 400 litres to as much as 800 litres depending on configuration.

Advanced driver assistance systems are also anticipated, including adaptive cruise control, lane support and autonomous emergency braking. A 540-degree camera system, which adds an underbody view to the standard surround camera feed, is likely to be part of the safety suite.

JSW Motors First SUV Design & Positioning

The JSW Motors First SUV carries a boxy, upright design with a lifestyle-oriented stance. Its styling is said to have been shaped under the guidance of former Porsche designer Hakan Saracoglu.

Given its size, features and expected plug-in hybrid focus, the model could be positioned as a premium offering within the midsize SUV segment. For Indian buyers, it represents a new entrant backed by a large industrial group, potentially expanding competition in both the premium SUV and electrified vehicle categories.

More official details, including specifications and pricing, are expected closer to the festive-season launch window later this year.
