Delhi-based custom motorcycle builder TNT Motorcycles has showcased a Royal Enfield Himalayan 440, a project that effectively fills the gap left after Royal Enfield discontinued the air-cooled Himalayan 411 in late 2023.
The custom build is aimed at riders who preferred the size, character and simplicity of the older Himalayan, but wanted more performance and touring capability without stepping up to the larger and more expensive Himalayan 450.

A response to the Himalayan 411’s exit
When Royal Enfield phased out the Himalayan 411 to make way for the all-new Himalayan 450, it created a clear break in the brand’s adventure touring line-up.

While the 450 brought modern electronics, a liquid-cooled engine and significantly more power, it also came with higher pricing and a larger physical footprint. For many riders, especially those who valued the 411’s approachable nature, there was no direct replacement.
TNT Motorcycles’ Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is positioned as an answer to that gap. Importantly, this is not a new Scram 440 reworked to resemble a Himalayan. The motorcycle began life as a standard Himalayan 411 before undergoing a series of mechanical and hardware upgrades.
Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 Engine & gearbox upgrades using OEM parts
According to TNT Motorcycles founder Naveen Nandal, the core of the transformation lies in the engine. The custom Himalayan uses original Royal Enfield Scram 440 components to increase displacement to 443cc. Along with the larger capacity, the gearbox has also been upgraded to a six-speed unit, again using OEM Royal Enfield parts.
The Scram 440-spec motor produces 25.4 hp at 6,250 rpm and 34 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm, offering a modest but meaningful bump over the Himalayan 411’s 24 hp and 32 Nm outputs. While the gains on paper are not dramatic, the added torque and sixth gear are expected to improve highway cruising and overall touring comfort.
TNT says the conversion process does not require extensive structural changes, making it relatively straightforward for existing Himalayan 411 and Scram 411 owners.
Chassis, suspension and touring-focused changes
Beyond the engine, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 also benefits from several cycle-part upgrades. The bike runs cross-spoked wheels sourced from the Himalayan 450, paired with the same braking hardware used on the newer model. Suspension duties are handled by upgraded YSS units, aimed at improving ride quality and load-carrying ability.

One of the most notable touring-focused modifications is the custom aluminium fuel tank. While it retains a near-stock appearance, capacity has been increased to 21 litres from the standard 15 litres. Despite the larger size, TNT claims the aluminium tank weighs roughly the same as the original steel unit, helping preserve the bike’s balance.
Costs and retrofit potential
For owners interested in a similar conversion, TNT Motorcycles has outlined indicative pricing. Upgrading the engine and gearbox from 411cc to the 440-spec setup costs between Rs 38,000 (excluding GST). The custom aluminium fuel tank is priced at Rs 32,000, also excluding GST.
Other components, such as wheels, brakes and suspension, would add to the overall cost depending on specification.
Crucially, TNT confirms that existing Himalayan 411 and Scram 411 owners can opt for these upgrades individually, rather than commissioning a full build.
What this means for Royal Enfield owners
While Royal Enfield itself has no plans to revive the air-cooled Himalayan platform, projects like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 highlight continued demand for a middle-ground adventure tourer.
For current 411 owners unwilling to move to the Himalayan 450, this route offers a way to extend the life and relevance of their motorcycles using largely factory-compatible components.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 remains a custom build rather than an official product, but it underlines how adaptable Royal Enfield’s older platforms still are in the Indian market.
