Volkswagen India has introduced the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line SUV in the domestic market at an introductory price of Rs 46.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The model is being brought in via the CKD route and assembled at the Volkswagen Group facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Positioned above the Tiguan R-Line in Volkswagen’s India portfolio, the Tayron R-Line enters the premium three-row SUV space, where it will compete with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq and Toyota Fortuner.
Notably, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line undercuts the top-spec Fortuner, which is priced at Rs 49.59 lakh (ex-showroom), while being slightly more expensive than the Skoda Kodiaq L&K at Rs 45.96 lakh.

Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Design & Exterior Highlights

The Volkswagen Tayron R-Line features a sportier design compared to standard Volkswagen SUVs. It gets Matrix LED headlamps, a full-width LED light bar, illuminated Volkswagen logos, and LED tail lamps. The bumpers are styled aggressively, while squared-off wheel arches and subtle cladding add to its SUV stance.
It rides on 19-inch alloy wheels and comes with brushed aluminium roof rails and matte-finished skid plates. Seven exterior colour options are available, including Ultra Violet Metallic, Grenadilla Black Metallic and Oryx White Mother of Pearl Effect.
From certain angles, especially in profile, the design may appear slightly estate-like, but overall proportions remain distinctly SUV-focused.
Volkswagen Tayron R-Line Cabin Layout & Features

Inside, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line gets a feature-loaded cabin. The dashboard houses a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster. An AR-based head-up display is also part of the equipment list.
Comfort features include 12-way electrically adjustable front seats with memory, heating, ventilation and massage functions, three-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, 30-colour ambient lighting, and an 11-speaker 700W Harman Kardon sound system.

Additional highlights include two 45W USB charging ports, gesture-controlled powered tailgate and an electric parking brake.
The SUV is available in both six- and seven-seat configurations. With all rows folded, boot capacity stands at 850 litres. However, the third row is best suited for occasional short journeys, as access and space are limited compared to larger body-on-frame rivals.
Powertrain And Performance
The Tayron R-Line is based on Volkswagen’s MQB EVO platform, which also underpins the Tiguan R-Line. However, the Tayron benefits from a longer wheelbase.
Power comes from a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine (EA888 Evo4) producing 204 PS and 320 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a seven-speed DSG transmission and Volkswagen’s 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system.

The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 7.3 seconds and has a claimed top speed of 224 kmph. Driving dynamics are one of its strengths, with stable high-speed behaviour and confident cornering. However, low-speed ride quality may feel firm, and adaptive suspension or Dynamic Chassis Control is not offered in India.
What It Means For Buyers
With the Tayron R-Line, Volkswagen strengthens its presence in the premium three-row SUV segment. It offers strong performance, advanced features and AWD capability at a price that undercuts a top-spec Fortuner.
For buyers seeking a petrol-powered, monocoque-based seven-seater with a focus on driving dynamics rather than ladder-frame ruggedness, the Tayron R-Line presents a new alternative in this price bracket.
As competition intensifies in the Rs 45–50 lakh SUV space, the Volkswagen Tayron R-Line adds another option for customers prioritising technology, performance and European driving characteristics over outright size and diesel torque.
